The National Bar Association was founded in 1925 and is the nation’s oldest and largest national network of predominantly African-American attorneys and judges. It has 84 affiliate chapters throughout the United States and affiliations in Canada, the United Kingdom, Africa Morocco and the Caribbean. It represents the interests of approximately 65,000 lawyers, judges, law professors and law students. The NBA is organized around 23 substantive law sections, 9 divisions, 12 regions and 80 affiliate chapters throughout the United States and around the world.
A Region is a subdivision of the Association contiguous to and parallel with each of the Circuit Courts of Appeals of the United States. There shall be a Regional Director for each Region who shall perpetuate the duties and responsibilities of its Region, found in the organization Bylaws.

Affiliate Chapters are local state chapters of the National Bar Association, who agree to propel the mission of the National Bar Association. Pre-existing local bar association/groups may join the National Bar as an affiliate chapter by completing an application. Region XII affiliate Chapters include GWAC and the Washington Bar Association.
